How a 9-Word Email Can Revive Dead Leads This Weekend

Stuart Bell 2 min read

Some people call this a magic trick, but I prefer to think of it as emailing like a human (even if you're helped by the machines).

I talk a lot about conversational conversions, but the original idea belongs to my business partner, Dean Jackson. He is famous for this approach, and one of the most effective uses is the 9-word email.

It's something you can apply this weekend and have replies waiting for you on Monday.

Here's Why It Works

We all have people on our email lists who don't become clients.

Most businesses never reach out to these people. Some occasionally send boilerplate messages, others send templated newsletters, but few reach out and treat them like real people.

It's often because we get hung up on the automated systems we use to send emails. Yes, technically the email is being sent to hundreds or thousands of people by a tool, but that's only because it's impractical to send them one at a time.

Each reader opens the email alone and never thinks about who else it might have gone to.

Remember, you're still writing the message to one reader. More importantly, each reader opens the email alone and never thinks about who else it might have gone to. This gives you the opportunity to stand out and make that conversational connection.

Try This

In your email system, find all the people who aren't yet clients.

Send an email, just text, no fancy images or colors, with a simple message, just like you would if you were typing it out on your phone.

Subject: Hi Mike Body: "Hi Mike. Do you want to get your book started this month?"

Or: "Hi Sue. Are you still looking for Social Security information?"

Or: "Hi Bob. Does your heel still hurt?"

Just refer to whatever they were originally interested in, using conversational language you would use if you bumped into them at Starbucks.
