Your Three Roles as a Small Business Owner

Stuart Bell 1 min read

As a small business owner, you're responsible for finding clients. Here are your three roles.

Starting conversations. Think about where people are, online, offline, via referrals, and what value you can add to start a conversation with them.

Nurturing relationships. Not everyone is ready to act immediately. How can you stay in conversation until they are ready?

Making it easy for people to get started. People are easily distracted. Creating simple next steps is key to moving the conversation forward. Focusing on "minimum viable commitments" removes any friction to getting started.

Don't Expect Your Brain to Jump Between Them

Each of these is a different way of thinking, so don't expect your brain to jump between them.

Use a checklist and first decide what answers potential clients are looking for. Then, think about how you can keep the conversation going. Lastly, what is a simple step you can ask of people ready to take action today?

A book is a great way to start conversations and nurture relationships, and the best part is you already know everything you need to know to be the author of your idea.
